Dental implants: Dental implants without surgery

By inserting dental implants in place of lost teeth, it is possible to obtain anew an extraordinary appearance and a masticatory function analogous to the one present with natural teeth. First the implants are inserted into the bone. After a few months the new teeth can be connected, sturdily fixed to the implant itself. Finally there is the rediscovery of a mastication provided by fixed teeth.

In order to simplify the procedure and diminish the eventual after-effects of the small surgical intervention of implant insertion, some strongly innovative procedures have been developed.

Let's see a few.

It is possible to use a mini invasive surgical approach by methods that avoid the inconveniency of having to create a surgical cut in order to insert the implants, thus avoiding the necessity of stitches in the end. The limit of implant surgery is certainly the effort of undergoing oral surgery in which the gingiva is lifted and one or more implants are inserted into the bone.

The first thing to be done besides the usual pre-surgery evaluations is a three dimensional evaluation of mandible volume or of the superior arch. Through a careful CAT scan it is possible to obtain precise information regarding their form and the bone quantity. In light of this information it is then possible to realise a surgery guide. A rigid cover is stably fixed to the treated arch, which assists the surgeons work to such a point that it is not necessary to create a surgical incision. The routers which are fundamental for the site's realisation are as a matter of fact guided  by special fixtures in the right position with such precision that it is no longer necessary to create a surgical incision in order to assess bone anatomy.

In the same session  the implants are inserted into the bone, thus the new fixed and stable teeth are connected to the implants. With utmost surgical security and orthodontic technical precision. It is evident that even this technique which is very sophisticated and state-of-the-art can not be the solution to every case, but is a treatment that indeed requires an attentive evaluation by the  dentist. More so, the type of mouth closure and mastication must be examined. The same attention must also be dedicated to the patient's general health conditions, as well as to his lifestyle.

As a matter of fact, modern medicine orients itself exclusively on information based on scientific evidence. Where every choice is founded upon proven and well studied information, which is then  shared with the patient.

Let's point out that dentistry is also an aesthetic and cosmetic science, but it is based on strong medical-surgical connotations. Most certainly, we must not forget the role that the mouth has, and all of its unconscious implications that play in the most intimate aspects of our lives. The mouth is treated in order to have a better mastication and to have a pleasant smile without having bad breath. But it is also fundamental to make us feel more self-confident, to live both more happily and more serenely.
